After she was booted out last Thursday, below are what Filipinos are saying about the Fil-Am singer. As usual they have good things to say about Ramiele Malubay despite her being eliminated already =) And for those who can’t get enough of Pinoy singers, the first PINOY IDOL is up this Saturday on GMA-7! For sure, Ramiele Malubay will be invited to perform there. Can’t wait! =)

“She has what it takes to make it to the top three—she has the looks, the [stage] presence and the voice. What could ruin her chances to reach the finals is a bad choice of song. Song choice, as Simon Cowell has always emphasized, can make or break a singer. I completely agree with him. All American Idol contestants are only good as their last performance. Ramiele Malubay, if she doesn’t chuck the habit of picking the wrong song, might get booted out of the competition sooner than we think.”
—Gabby Libarios, journalist

“I applaud her for being proud to be Pinoy ever since she got in at American Idol. I believe that she will make it because she’s natural, and her personality’s simply engaging. She’s a real talent and very worthy of the title. I am glad because she’s making us [all] proud.”
—Catherine Untalan, Miss Earth 2006 second runner-up

Too bad.. But I guess all good things must come to an end. Just when the Fil-Am singer was doing great with her songs again, Ramiele Malubay gets booted out! The irony of it.. *shakes head* Thursday’s elimination started by continuing the country theme with The Clark Brothers singing their own rendition of “This Little Light of Mine.” After the former contestants update, Dolly Parton sang her newest single “Jesus and Gravity” from her upcoming album Backwards Barbie.

The bottom three were then identified as Brooke White, Ramiele Malubay and Kristy Lee Cook, all roommates! Maybe they have been doing girly chitchat instead of practicing? Hehe! Simon Cowell said America finally got the bottom three right this time. And after the votes were tallied, Ramiele Malubay was the one who said goodbye. As expected, tears came and this time, it’s for herself =(

Ramiele Malubay sure does cross ours! =) This week, American Idol finalists got the venerable Dolly Parton to mentor them and they got to do her songs as well. I’m sure they had a hard time finding the perfect song coz Dolly has a HUGE catalog of great hits! She’s a very talented singer and the AI finalists are lucky to have her. As for Ramiele Malubay, she chose the upbeat “Do I Cross Your Mind”, a real cool song =) So how did the Pinay singer’s performance went?

For me, she was way better than Jason Castro or Kristy Lee Cook! Her voice fit the song to a T. Nice style for her! However, Ramiele Malubay’s lack of confidence was apparent in some parts. She seemed going back and forth between moments of feeling free and scared. Guess Ramie is still really lacking from experience. She’s got a great voice and all she needs is the confidence to match it! =)

Did you know that Ramiele Malubay is the third Filipino who made it to the top 10 of American Idol? The 4-feet and 11-inch native of Florida, tagged as a “small girl with a huge voice, funky hair and dynamic personality” is definitely part of AI history now! =) Aside from Ramiele Malubay, previous six Fil-Ams have reached the top 24 of this singing reality TV show created by Simon Fuller. The six were Brad Estrin (Season 1), Jordan Segundo (Season 2), Jasmine Trias and Camile Velasco (Season 3), Jose “Sway” Peñala (Season 5), and AJ Tablado (Season 6). Notice that in almost every season there’s a Filipino! Galing talaga ng Pinoy! =) Among the six, only Jasmine and Camile were lucky enough to go through final 12. But Camile was the fourth to be eliminated, while Jasmine finished third overall. Will Ramiele Malubay be as successful as Jasmine? The answer is in your votes guys!

In a fan-based reality show, the fans are the bread and butter of a contestant who wishes to survive. Ramiele Malubay is quite lucky coz despite her less-than stellar recent performances, her fans still supported her. The big question — will she be able to equal, if not surpass Jasmine Trias’ feat, or just have the same fate as Camile Velasco? Will Ramiele Malubay make it to the final three or not? Here’s what some of the American Idol viewers said:

“She will make it [to top three]. She has a very good chance. ‘Vocally’, she’s okay.”
–Resty Furuc, software developer

“No, she won’t [make it]. She keeps on choosing songs that don’t highlight her vocal range. She’s trying to copy Regine Velasquez. American Idol isn’t a venue for imitating anybody.”
—Ria Olson, health care officer

“She will go far [in the contest], but not as far as top three.”
—Christian Guatlo, migrant worker

“Yes. She spices up every song that she sings. She sounds better than Jasmine Trias!”
—Ihna Obispo, bank teller

“No. [Because] Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson will choose a ‘pure’ American in the end. Look what happened to Jasmine Trias? Finalists with foreign [particularly Asian] lineage have zero chance of winning the grand prize. It’s a sad fact.”
—Donald Carpio, student

Of course it’s primarily coz she is of Filipino descent. Never mind if she didn’t grew up in the Philippines — Ramiele Malubay will always be a “kababayan” for all the Filipinos out there. And the fact that she’s a singer, that made her all the more lovable. Pinoys are very fond of singing, FYI =) University of the Philippines (UP) sociologist Andrea Martinez explains, “Filipinos cheer for Ramiele Malubay because they can relate to her. The singer embodies the longing of every single Pinoy to be successful.”

The sociologist adds, “There is also the natural propensity of Filipinos to identify with the underdog since the singer is considered a member of the minority who can be subjected to discrimination.” Ooohh, now you’re talking serious ma’am! But we all love underdogs right? And just like boxing idol Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, the UP sociologist also said Filipinos will support Ramiele Malubay because she gives them reason to be proud of their nationality.

That sign stands for corazon, Spanish for “heart” =) The fantabulous gay singer revealed this bit recently in a phone interview with journalists from around the world arranged by Star World. Danny Noriega explained, “It’s a cute little half-heart thing that we just do.” He also said that Ramiele Malubay is his “best friend” in the reality show. And you can easily see proof of this on the AI website where various photos of the two hugging and goofing around are displayed. Danny further shared, “We became really close [Ramiele Malubay] at the end of Hollywood week. We have a lot in common. She’s my twin and I love her.” Awww, too sweet for words! I’m sure Ramiele Malubay feels the same way too Danny! And the truth is, you’re both lucky to have each other =)

We talk the same way. We all have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).” LOL! No wonder they got along so well! In fact, in a recent American Idol episode, Danny was seen joining Ramie’s parents in the audience, all of them in T-shirts with her picture. That’s what friends are for right?? =)

Anyway, when Danny Noriega was voted off, Ramiele Malubay found new friends in the persons of Brooke White and David Cook. In a recent AI episode, the petite singer called the white chick “Mama Brooke” and she reciprocated by calling Ramie her “Little One” =) As for David Cook, he is like an elder brother to the Pinay singer. Ramiele Malubay shared, “He gives me pep talks.”

WHEW!! I really thought she was a goner yesterday night! And before anything else, thanks to all those who voted for her. Luv yah guys! You definitely saved Ramiele Malubay’s ass! Hehe! =) So, who got eliminated? Surprisingly, it was Chikezie Eze. He was told several times to either skip the throwback songs, or tackle them with his own personal touch but this Tuesday’s performance, he made a near-mockery of Luther Vandross’ “If Only for One Night”. Simon Cowell called him “cheesy” and America voted him out. Thus, Ramiele Malubay is still in! And guess what? She wasn’t even in the bottom three! NICE! Along with Chikezie were Syesha Mercado and Jason Castro, who, according to one website,

were both probably more worthy of seats on the “safe” sofa than Ramiele Malubay. How does she keep getting off so easy? And don’t even say it’s the pouty “awww” she lets out every time the judges (or at least Cowell) tell it like it is. Argh.

Let’s just say Ramie has tons of loving fans like us! Hehe!

Gahhh, when will she ever shine?? Good thing that Ramiele Malubay has a loyal fan base or else all her “okay” performances for the past weeks would have eliminated her in American Idol already! If you missed it last night, the Pinay sensation sang ‘Alone’ by Heart on the American Idol. And according to the judges, the song was way too big for her. It is unfortunate that Ramiele Malubay’s chosen song was sung by Carrie Underwood in season 4, and she was sooo damn good! Of course, comparisons were made and the petite singer didn’t make the cut.

It was noticeable that Ramiele Malubay was straining to hit and belt out the high notes. As a result, much of her performance was pitchy. But you have to give it to her as she performed while sick! She said her voice just “went bye bye” though this was not noticeable to the audience. What a pro huh?? =) The best thing? Simon Cowell said it was much better than her karaoke performance last week. WHEW!!
